ELI is a collaborative learning experience that helps participants explore their leadership styles, strengthen their leadership aptitude, and build confidence in their ability to support Community Action work at the local and statewide level. The program combines formal training, peer networking, group discussion, and shared learning opportunities. Participants connect with colleagues from across New York State while developing skills that support stronger agencies, stronger teams, and stronger communities. By equipping emerging leaders with these critical skills, NYSCAA helps ensure that Community Action Agencies can continue the important work of helping people and changing lives for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers. What Participants Can ExpectLeadership TrainingBuild practical skills and knowledge that support leadership growth within Community Action. Peer NetworkingBuild relationships with CAA staff across New York and strengthen statewide connections. Group DiscussionParticipate in conversations around current topics, leadership challenges, and selected readings. Community Action FocusDeepen your understanding of Community Action, leadership, service, and the work of the network. Application Process & CostCommunity Action Agency staff may apply for ELI through the NYSCAA application form. The application includes basic identifying information and an essay describing the applicant’s commitment to Community Action, career goals, interest in ELI, and expected benefit from participating in the program. Program Cost: $495 per applicant. This includes the registration fee for the NYSCAA conference in the fall. Who Should Apply?NYSCAA encourages Community Action Agency staff who want to enhance their leadership skills, increase their connection to Community Action, and strengthen relationships with CAA staff across the state to apply. Previous ELI classes have included coordinators, program managers, CFOs, directors, IT staff, and other professionals working throughout Community Action. There is value in ELI for anyone looking to grow as a leader within the network. 2026 ScheduleThe ELI schedule includes multiple seminars held during regular work hours. Sessions may include both virtual and in-person components. Introductory Meeting: April 2, 2026, 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM Suggested eCoursesThese courses are hosted on NYSCAA Learn and can be taken anytime. Many of these topics are covered throughout ELI, but applicants are encouraged to complete them for a deeper understanding of the material.
